IEP Roles
Who's On Your Child's IEP Team?
1. Administrator
This is someone from your local public school district that can authorize funds to provide the services necessary to meet your child’s unique learning needs. This individual should also be knowledgeable about the general education curriculum.
2. General Ed Teacher
These teachers know the content of each subject area they teach, and are responsible for providing the core academic instruction, and implementing the required modifications agreed upon by your child's IEP Team.
3. Special Ed Teacher
As an expert in specially designed instruction, accommodations, and modifications, the special education teacher provides services outlined in the IEP, ensures that student performance data are collected and analyzed, and then instruction and intervention strategies are modified accordingly.
4. Parents
As parents you are encouraged to actively participate in all discussions, provide meaningful input into decisions regarding your child’s IEP, provide important information about priorities, the child’s strengths and needs, as well as information about the cultural and developmental appropriateness of goals and intervention strategies.
5. ARD Facilitator
This is someone who assists with an admission, review, and dismissal (ARD) in developing an IEP for a student with a disability. They are an impartial non-member of the committee who assists with the overall organization and conduct of the meeting by establishing an agenda and setting the time allotted, guiding the discussion, resolving disagreements as they arise and keeping the focus on developing a mutually-agreed-upon IEP for your child.
